FAQ

What are infographics?

In the past, sellers could simply take a quality picture of their product and use it on an online marketplace. Now, however, the competition is high, and many sellers have turned to listing the qualities and benefits of their product overlaid on the main image - this is what’s called an infographic.

Another commonly used tool are animated infographics that capture even more attention and can convey more information than their static counterparts. With SUPA, you can create both types of infographics, and list the unique qualities of your product directly over the product image.

Designs created in SUPA fit the requirements of all major online marketplaces including Amazon, Ebay, etc. Built into our editor you will find image resolution presets fit for all of these marketplaces, saving you time researching their product image requirements.

What to keep in mind when designing infographics?

Consider the requirements of the marketplace

Before starting work on your infographic, make sure to familiarize yourself with the requirements of a given online marketplace (Amazon, eBay, etc.). Different platforms set different rules. However, we can give you some general guidelines to follow:

  • Don’t use blurry, low-quality, or low-resolution images of your products
  • Don’t use pictures taken at home, or any pictures that feature your home environment as a background
  • Don’t feature information about sales and discounts in your infographic. Most marketplaces will let you show a drop in prices through their website.
  • Don’t use terms like “top”, “bestseller”, or any other phrasing indicating your product’s superiority over the competition
  • Don’t feature trademarks unless you own the right to use them
  • Don’t use the name of the marketplace in your infographics (e.g. “top product on Amazon”) - this will lead to the moderator team unlisting your products from their website
  • Some obvious rules include no profanity, unacceptable content, explicit imagery, hate speech, and inciting hateful behaviour
  • No product images are allowed that do not directly and prominently depict the product being sold
  • Don’t place watermarks over your product images and infographics

Highlight the qualities consumers care about

You can’t display all qualities of your product in a single infographic, so you have to choose the ones that matter the most. The best way to do this is to go through your reviews - what features of your product get mentioned the most? Another way to do this is to look at what gets highlighted by your competition.

For example, for a business selling bikes, it would make sense to highlight speed, materials, wheel size, the intended height and weight of the user, and warranty.

Common mistakes when designing infographics

Breakdown of the most common mistakes when creating product infographics for your online marketplace business.

Dated design

Your infographic design should stay up to date with the trends. When customers see a visually outdated infographic, they might project their impression on the quality of your product. Without a doubt, you will get more customers with a fresh, appealing looking product image.

If you feel like you lack design skills to create a contemporary-looking infographic, you will make great use of our library of templates. All of them are created with modern design trends in mind and will look up-to-date on the pages of any online marketplace.

Visual overload

A drive to highlight all features of your product at once can bring down the general quality and legibility of your infographic. This will take the viewers’ attention away from the point instead of highlighting it, so it’s crucially important to pick and choose only the most important, relevant features of your product to incorporate into an infographic.

Too many elements

Don’t overload your infographic with visual elements that don’t serve a purpose. They take away from the legibility of the image without contributing anything of value.

Poor product image

Don’t forget that the main purpose of an infographic is to display a product. Make sure the product is large, visible, and is not covered up by other graphic elements.
